The Train Gang

I have spent much time commuting up and down to London this week. The new pendolino trains roll about a lot and can make me feel a little queasy which means I can only work on my pc for some of the time. For the remainder of the journey, I enjoyed practising being mindful, using some material on my ipod. I found that spending time in this way enabled me to focus on my day, much more readily making my journey feel less arduous as a result.

I have also recorded some short mindfulness exercises for you to try. One is called a 3 minute or more accurately a 3 step breathing practice. This can be done at any time during the day when you feel you need to give your mind some space, perhaps to allow yourself to have time to respond rather than react to a situation. A teacher I know calls in ‘mindfulness in your pocket’ which I think is a lovely description.

The second is a slightly longer  (about 15 minutes)body scan exercise which could be taken at the end of your home yoga practice, when you get up or before you go to bed at night.

Both of these are available as free downloads from itunes or you can purchase a CD with these tracks on at my yoga class for £1.

I am keen to have feedback to inform future recordings and my teaching of these techniques to get out of our head and move towards feelings of calm.

Access AGGS Yoga in the iTunes store here.  Alternatively search for “aggs yoga”.
